The HORDE festival would be really cool and
all by itself, but wouldn't you know it,
Anh, the first lady of fine connections, did one better: my birthday present
was
not just a pair of tickets to HORDE, but also one of these.

What do you do with a press photo badge, you might ask? Well, that depends who you are.
If you happen to be Anh, you first try to take a picture of
Dave Matthews.

But then you get bored with the celebrities, and realize that
the HORDE festival is indeed
all about diversity.
So you attempt to capture that diversity in your photographs.

Dan, on the other hand, used the pass to strive for a more artistic
expression of
the bands' music.
First, Dan attempts to symbolize the melding of various musical
styles that Rusted Root
uses to create their unique melodies, choosing as his photographic tool
the old
trick of "Not Focusing".

This proved sedate, however, so Dan got "up close and personal"
in an attempt
to capture an actual droplet of Lenny Kravitz's sweat on the camera
lens. He failed, but produced this picture in the attempt.

Note the unique and interesting speaker interconnects.
Finally, Dan produced his masterpiece: A photograph of John
Popper,
Blues Traveler's lead singer, playing a beautiful melody on the
harmonica. This picture was taken approximately eight
seconds before Dan was ejected from the press
area because the photographer's $20 Target
special didn't have a switch to turn off the
blinding flash.

And finally, the best picture of the evening, one of Dan, Anh,
and Rusted Root's percussionist (Jim Something),
taken by, of course, Jim's girlfriend who had
never seen the camera before in her life.
